We live in the most interesting times humanity has ever experienced.
We live in the most dire times humanity has ever experienced.
Our lives hang by a rope whose threads steadily wane.
We cannot wait to be saved, for there are no hands to catch us.
If the statistics tell it true, I have 60 more years to live. Considering that i cannot remember a good half of my life 60 years is a hell of alot of living left. To think that everything from my first girlfriend, to moving out of home, to traveling alone for the first time, all these things happened in the last 10 years.
Being 12 years old seems so far away now. So much has happened in the last 10 years, not just to me but the world at large. Since 2000 an area the size of 10 United Kingdoms have been deforested in the Amazon. Since 2000 we have seen the degradation of no small amount of sovereign powers. Since I became politically active i have watched the steady erosion of our civil liberties and the countless rage fuelled protests and riots that have arisen from them.
If so much can happen in such a relatively small amount of my lifespan it makes me fear for the 60 years more that i have left to live.
For the first time in all of our lives being politically aware is not a nice to have, it is a necessity.
Though this being a truth, it has not become any more simple to become politically aware. I am well aware of the incessant jargon production of political theorists. I am well aware that reading political treatsies are often more like fighting your way through a jungle than a comfortable stroll. So in this series i hope to explain the political systems of the world to you. I hope to give you the tools with which to fight for your rights, your land, you life. Because, not a soul will do it for you.
